WE ARE JOINING THE SALT NETWORK!
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
On January 1st, 2025, The Chapel officially joined the Salt Network! This means that our college ministry will become a Salt Ministry on LSU’s campus and be known as Salt LSU (Formerly Refuge).
The Salt Network is a family of churches committed to reaching college students and planting churches in university centers
across the country.
WHY ARE WE DOING IT?
God has used The Chapel and Refuge to reach LSU’s campus for decades. We are joining the Salt Network to partner in their vision of planting a likeminded church and college ministry on every major campus in the country.
SENDING! The Chapel has a 10 year vision of sending 300 people into missions, vocation ministry or church planting. Joining the Salt Network provides both a pipeline for sending residents into full-time ministry, AND opportunities to send graduating seniors with an eternal purpose. Students will be encouraged to find a job near a Salt plant to support, serve, and attend.
Joining the Salt Network comes with vital resources that will help us reach LSU’s campus as we continue to grow. College ministry staff will receive weekly training and collaboration with similar sized churches. We will also have access to all of Salt’s leadership, discipleship, teaching & church planting resources. We will also join thousands of other students each year at the Salt Conference to catch the vision for church planting!
WHY NOW?
God has blessed this ministry and we have grown substantially in the past few years. We believe we have been faithful in helping students MEET, KNOW, AND FOLLOW Jesus while they are in college, but have lacked vision for their life after college. The Salt Network is that missing piece!
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
The hardest change will be the new name. Refuge is known around the country due to God’s hand in the lives of thousands of college students at LSU. Losing the name will be hard, but the vision of seeing God’s hand on hundreds of other campuses is worth it.
When it comes to ministry, NOT MUCH! The Chapel and the Salt Network are extremely similar in their college ministry practice, purpose, and style.
Financially, 2% of The Chapel’s budget will go to Salt. Much of this money goes to fund future church plants on college campuses AND help fund Salt Ministries around the country.
